Hyde Park Central School District

When renovating their high school fitness center, Hyde Park CSD wanted to make sure there was something for everyone in their new space. The project was initiated by a generous donation from John and Gloria Golden (John is a graduate of the high school), who wanted their gift to fund something that students and staff could take pride in for years to come.

“Our main goal for designing the new facility was to be sure all of our students would benefit from use of the fitness center,” said Thomas Cunningham, Athletic Director at Hyde Park CSD. “We are always looking to promote a healthy lifestyle with our students and our new facility will definitely give our student body motivation to improve their lifetime fitness.”

When designing the space, Cunningham and Advantage VP Matt Bogumil were on the same page from the beginning. “We always had similar ideas in regards to the layout – a draft layout I did in 2011 for a different project almost entirely matches the final layout envisioned by Tom in 2018. The school wanted a space that would fill the needs of everyone that uses it – racks for Athletics, circuit and cardio space for Physical Education, and a new functional training area for HIIT and functional workouts.”

The cardio selection features treadmills, ellipticals, and AMTs from Precor’s premium 800 Line, complimented by virtual reality Expresso GO bikes. The school had always been interested in providing Expresso bikes for their students, especially after seeing the success of the Empire State Challenge in February of this year, and this renovation was the perfect opportunity.

A turf lane runs through the center of the facility, with cardio lining one side and a Precor selectorized strength circuit lining the other. Assault AirRunners and AirBikes and a variety of Escape Fitness tools — TIYRs, plyoboxes, a sled, corebags, kettlebells, and more — offer an assortment of functional training options, and the space is completed by customized power racks, bumper plates, and dumbbells featuring Hyde Park’s logo and school colors.
