Oceanside High School's New Fitness and Performance Center
The recently renovated Oceanside High School Fitness and Performance Center is thoughtful, not just in design and equipment selection, but also in concept. Like many of the high schools we work with, Oceanside is passionate about wellness and health being an integral part of their school’s culture. Throughout this project, they have shown students and faculty how much they are valued, and Advantage is proud to have been alongside them to support their mission..
Out with the old
The weight room has always been a hot spot at Oceanside High School in Oceanside, NY. Between sports teams, students and staff, the facility is used before, during and after school all week long. In recent years, the equipment has become more noticeably outdated and even uninviting to those who frequent the space.
Oceanside was ready to invest in upgrading their space and began reaching out to companies to get a sense of who would be the best fit for assisting them with their renovation. Other Athletic Administrators within the community had previously endorsed Advantage (we love to hear it!). However, it wasn’t until Oceanside Athletic Director Tom Lehmen personally met Advantage’s Rob Anspach at an event that the partnership fell into place.

In with the new
And so, the planning began. Rob walked Oceanside through multiple iterations of the fitness center while considering current and evolving fitness trends, and the specific needs of their students and student-athletes. Ultimately, they arrived at a more spacious layout with a blend of fitness equipment perfect for the wide range of fitness levels at the school. This allows exercisers of diverse fitness levels the ability to effectively train, while reducing the risk of injury and improving overall performance. With the perfect mix of cardiovascular and strength equipment, Oceanside’s space took shape. The equipment spread includes 6 Power Lift half racks, strength pieces from Precor, and cardio by Assault Fitness.
What really brought the space together was the Oceanside custom branding. Tom says that if you drive anywhere in town, you will see many cars with the Oceanside “O” logo and that children and adults alike are proud to sport Oceanside gear. He felt it was important to brand the equipment and the space to enhance that feeling of pride. A mixture of their signature “O” along with the “Sailors” laser cutout down the racks certainly does the trick!

The Big Reveal
Students and staff are in shock that this is the same space, Tom says. Especially those who had used the space prior to the renovation. They say it feels bigger with the new and improved layout and equipment like the racks and strength machines are significantly higher quality. The fitness center is even more popular now, with more teachers and coaches have expressed interest in utilizing the space due to it’s inviting design and the variety of equipment. Tom also reports that the new facility has given them the ability to enhance their PE curriculum to utilize the room for adaptive physical education classes.
Creating meaningful spaces that effectively serve our clients and their communities is part of our mission at Advantage. The benefits of this facility to the staff and students at Oceanside will continue to unfold for years to come. This outcome and partnership have left an impression not only on Oceanside High School, but on us as well.
