Chan Soon Shiong Medical Center

The Physical Therapy and Sports Performance Clinic at Chan Soon Shiong Medical Center

Johnstown, PA

A good plan and even better design

The new Physical Therapy and Sports Performance Clinic at Chan Soon Shiong Medical Center was a collaboration between the medical center and the Indiana Regional Medical Center.

The Johnstown, PA based clinic is part of a brand new 15,000 square foot hospital made up of 3 components: an Orthopedic Surgery unit, an Orthopedic Walk-in Clinic and a Physical Therapy and Sports Performance Clinic. When it came time to design and outfit the Physical Therapy and Sports Performance Clinic, Director of Rehabilitation Services, Tom Anders, knew exactly where to turn. He had known and worked with Advantage Territory Sales Manager Dan Sawyer in the past. In previously working with Dan, Tom had full confidence in his ability to offer workable ideas into the design of the space while simplifying the process.

Behind the Chan Soon Shiong Medical Center project

Considerations

wo key considerations at the project’s outset were the distinctive needs of physical therapy and sport performance patients/clients and equipment layout within the limited 3,000 square feet available. Additionally, Tom recognized that creating aesthetic appeal was essential to establish a competitive edge against other facilities offering similar services.

Leaning on Advantage

Dan was able to assist in recommending space-efficient equipment and created an L-shaped layout that included all of the necessary components in a way that makes sense but also feels spacious.

Dan suggested and helped Tom implement a custom Escape Fitness Functional Frame into the mix. This exceptionally practical piece not only helps clients and patients use functional fitness to heal and/or improve athletic performance, but it’s also an eye-catching centerpiece that gives the space an elevated look and feel (especially with the pop of yellow and black!)

Combination of strength and cardio

Tom and Dan collaborated to ensure clients and patients using the facility have access to a variety of premium equipment. The facility provides a combination of strength and cardio machines from Precor to meet various training and physical therapy needs.

10 yards of striking green turf offers individuals an open space for a diverse selection of training and therapy options, including use of the Escape Fitness Quad Sled and functional or strength accessories. The custom branded Chan Soon Shiong bumper plates add a sophisticated and polished touch to the whole space.

The facility came together beautifully, though the delivery and installation of the space was not without its obstacles. Tom recalls that the Advantage team went above and beyond to address and overcome them with ease.

Triumph Through Partnership

Once complete, Chan Soon Shiong Richland held a soft opening for physicians and board members along with some representatives from the community to get a first look. The facility made a strong impression on all who attended, from the impressive array of equipment all the way down to the color scheme. Tom says they were expecting a slow build after opening but that their patient/client volume exceeded their expectations. He attributes that success to working with Dan and the Advantage team to create a space that truly makes an impact on people when they see it in-person.

Purposeful design, careful planning and seamless execution are important to our clients. We’ve turned those components into values that are part of our process. Results like the one at the Chan Soon Shiong Medical Center are well worth the effort. In the end, both partners achieve success.

"A huge help ironing out logistical challenges like time constraints"

“Andy Ware [ASF Director of Field Operations & Logistics] and the delivery team knew what they were doing. They were a huge help in ironing out logistical challenges we were faced with like time constraints.”
