In Sidney, NY, school spirit is baked into the fabric of the community, and Sidney High School is its heartbeat.
The School has made its campus a true community asset, opening its pool and a vibrant playground to the public while also using its indoor and outdoor spaces and turf field to support local gatherings and events.
A long-standing partnership.
Advantage and Sidney have had a long-standing relationship. The district turned to us when they needed anything from a set of kettlebells to a yearly preventative maintenance form our service department. Incremental upgrades kept the school moving forward, but without the yearly budget for a major overhaul.
When the opportunity finally came along to upgrade the weight room through a capital project, Advantage and Sidney felt the electric energy around the project and knew this was their chance to craft a truly special space.
Advantage worked closely with Athletic Director Jim Karl and Superintendent Eben Bullock, who began his educational career in Health and PE. Eben has always been committed to and passionate about the importance of youth fitness. Together, they harnessed that passion and got to work on bringing their fitness vision from plan to reality.
The fitness space transformation.
The space the school had to work with was previously an all-around fitness room, with a mixture of cardio and strength equipment. The transformation this room underwent is a reflection of students’ evolving interest in strength and conditioning. While the school still maintains a different area for cardio, this particular room is strength-focused.

More than just a well-equipped training facility, the new weight room is a true reflection of the school’s identity, brought to life through striking custom branding.
From the custom Sidney “S” on platform inlays and bench plates, to half rack laser cutouts and Saber branded embossed bench head wraps, those are just a few examples of some of the impactful customizations throughout. It has the wow factor that imbues emotions of pride the moment you walk in the door.

The facility is meticulously maintained and always ready to host exercisers. Jim Karl often leaves the lights on during athletic competitions in the gymnasium to showcase the room to guests, making it welcoming to all. It’s no longer cramped; instead, it’s a much more efficient space, offering all the necessary equipment in a layout that enhances usability and flow.
This highly utilized space effectively supports both students and faculty in achieving their fitness goals. A transformation that enhances both functionality and community engagement.

Working with Sidney Central School District has been a rewarding experience, bringing us a great sense of accomplishment. This project is a perfect example of the powerful impact intentional fitness design can have on a school and its community. This large-scale renovation marks a significant milestone for the school. The room is still so fresh and like new beginnings, is filled with promise and opportunity.
